Lisbon consensus


On April 17, 2026, at the Egas Moniz School of Health & Sciences in Almada, the Lisbon Consensus on development and promotions of High-Quality Traditional Chinese Medicine in Portugal was signed—a foundational document establishing five strategic axes for the development of a safe, science-based, innovative, and integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice in Portugal. The Hospital Medicina Chinesa is one of the founding signatories of this consensus and invites national and international TCM specialists, clinicians, and academics to sign this historic commitment by 2027.

The Five Pillars of Consensus


1. Science and Methodological Evidence:

rigorous scientific validation of TCM in collaboration with medical and pharmacy faculties in Portugal, Macau, and China.


2. Innovation and Technological Convergence:

digital transformation of TCM with AI and public health technologies, including the China-Portugal Joint Laboratory.


3. Integration into the Healthcare Ecosystem:

interdisciplinary collaboration between TCM and conventional medicine, focusing on patient safety.


4. Academic Excellence and Professional Regulation:

raising the standards of TCM education and defining clear clinical ethics.


5. Strategic Diplomacy and Economic Sustainability:

consolidation of the Portugal–Macau–China axis as a knowledge and logistics hub for global TCM.
